If we lost our body hair through evolution, why do we still have pubic hair?

Why do we have pubes around our private bits and armpits still?

There is a lot of speculation about this, and we don't know with any certainty. However, one possibility is that this hair traps certain odors that may act as mating-signal pheremones. Just the fact that it appears during puberty suggests that it is a visual signal that someone is of reproductive age.

In the case of females, pubic hair may act as an extra barrier to help prevent foreign materials from entering the vagina. Pubic hair might also help reduce irritation from friction during intercourse, and could act as a bit of insulation (there is a lot of blood flow through these areas).

I don't know if you've been to the beach lately... but there is still plenty of body hair out there in the world.

evoluition is a lie

Because evolution is bogus! God is the only creator of this earth we are living on. If you want to believe the foolish notion that we came from monkeys, then please go right on ahead. I don't think that it is a very great compliment to the human race to consider that we came from animals who can neither talk nor act in a civilized manner.

If we lost our body hair through evolution, why do we still have pubic hair?

So you are saying that is the only places you have hair?

The area around there is sensitive and needs protection.

You will find that if you research this on the net that armpit and pubic hair is involved in trapping scent and animal pheromones.

Evolution is something that is in the back of our minds to test our faith. I assume you already believe this by the sarcasm in your question :)

There might be several reasons. One is that they help retain the pheromones secreted by glands in those locations. Another is that pubes are a very sensitive spot and it would have made sense to have some padding and extra insulation there.

Pubic hair has two main purposes. It has the ability to absorb pheromones and hold them to the body so that members of the opposite sex will be attracted. The other purpose is to trap microorganisms and keep them from entering openings into our bodies and from attacking the lymph nodes that reside just under the skin in these areas.

some hair is supposed to protect vulnerable bits to help protect against infection.

In some areas we have retained hair because it's protective. In others probably because it retains scents that are (or were once) considered to be sexual attractants. The latter is probably the case with armpit hair and maybe both for pubic hair.

It captures pheromones to heighten sexual attraction.

we havent lost our body hair. Look at your arms, they still contain hair, look at your head, it still has hair, look at your face, it still has hair, even women have very fine hair on their faces, back, stomachs. Actually, humans have more hair than a chimpanzee; the difference is that most human hair consists of the almost invisible, fine hair.

If we lost our body hair through evolution, why do we still have pubic hair?

because the hair holds in our chemical scents which have a lot

to do with reproduction and there for are important to the survival

of our species.

For warmth genius.

because we're only half-way there!

First, we have to look at the role hair plays in the body.

Hair is there to draw sweat away from the body (which is why most of the hair on your body points downwards), which helps the body in cooling, and stops you from getting a chill from sweat sticking to your body once heat levels have been regulated.

However... certain areas of the body still need temperature to be regulated more than others.

The genital area requires cooling because of the important role it plays.

Also, areas within folds - like between the legs and under the arms - tend to heat up a lot more, since because they are usually enclosed, they can't vent heat as efficiently as, say, your forearms. Therefore you have more hair in these areas to draw the sweat away.
