sometimes it is due to allergies or ring worm. try bathing it with saline water at the balding spot. If it still does no work, do bring it to the vet.

one of my hamster's started to lose hair when it was about 2. Turned out it was just a bit of an inflammation/allergy type thing. we later discovered it was the bath powder that the skin was reacting to. i suggest you go to your vet just to be sure. however if it isn't a serious problem then it will recover like mine did.
