It seems as though my cat suddenly lost this patch of hair on his back. Its about 1x2" rectangle and perfectly clean (not scratched or irritated or red, just little white kitty skin. )There is one little red bump, but it's only at one end of the patch. What could this be? He is an indoor cat and didn't fight anything.
My cat lost a patch of hair, what could it be? (it's not round, as thought like in ringworm)?
There are many causes of losing fur but it seems like your cat has the same problem as one of my dogs.... a flea allergy. I say this because of the red bump, also my dog lost his hair gradually in one spot because he was allergic to these bites. Flea bites can leave these small red bumps. You can buy Solid Gold food for your cat. My dogs hair grew back in 5 days on this food, and they make cat food also. It is a VERY good food and last time I checked WAS NOT on recall.
You also need to get rid of the fleas if there are any present. Yes your animal can still get fleas even if they are an inside animal. (it only takes one and then they can lay eggs and live in your carpets as larvea and eggs for 2-4 weeks) Bath the cat in a flea killing shampoo (examples: Zodiac, Adams, Deflea "wouldnt recommend Hartz have heard it causes some animals seizures",etc.) Leave the shampoo on for AT LEAST 5 minuets not over 15. The insectiside needs time to do its job, lather the cat and leave it in the bathroom. When you rinse it looks for the fleas. They'll be small dots. Another sign of fleas is if your cat has very tiny small black/or white dots when it is dry, this is called flea dust, but only happens on a bad infestation, if there are only a couple of fleas your probably wont see flea dust.
If you do see fleas then bath your cat like described above once a week until they are no longer found. Treat your house with a flea spray/powder to kill the eggs and larvea in your residence.
Also there are many other causes for loss of hair, it could also be a food allergy. Sold Gold is also good for this because it doesnt contain any fillers "which is usually the source of the food allergy" but if you switch the cats food (always ween them onto a new food gradually or they might diarrhea or vomit) and his hair doesnt get at least get a little better or the patch doesnt grow back a little in a week I would take him to the vet to have the vet look at it and see if it is an allergy because there a lot of other things like grass, dust, and other common things the cat comes in contact with that could also be causing the allergy and in this case you need to know exactly what it is. They should be able to run some tests just like they do in humans to see if an allergy is the cause.
Also if the cat has a medical problem other than allergies that are causing it to lose hair. This is because if a cat/dog is not receiving all of its nutrients for some reason. The first place its body will compenate is in the skin and coat. Their organs and other physical components will take presidence over their skin and coat, and a sick cat/dog whose body is not absorbing all of the required minerals and such will lose their skin and coat first so that their other vital organs can get the nutrients they need.
My first guess though is still flea allergy... GOOD LUCK hope your cat gets better!

It could be food allergies or fleas. Take your cat to the vet though as soon as possible just in case it's something that could spread!

Is it a long-haired cat? They need to be groomed A LOT or they lose patches of hair. Comb it with a people come and brush it wish a cat brush at least a couple times a week.
